Google I/O: New Look Google Maps with improved search

Google has had a field trip today with at their I/O conference and has wooed the developers and tingled taste buds in many ways. But in continuing Google style they have also launched a new look Google Maps service. Despite the unplanned early exposure by the means of a leak this morning, we knew Google Maps would likely get a refresh. So there wasn’t any real surprise when the Big G unveiled the new look Maps today at Moscone West.

Outfitted with a new look tailored for tablets the Maps app also included improved search. They have bumped up the experience with “immersive imagery” and the map itself is the new UI, no more sidebar. Clicking on a location brings up options such as Street View and 360 Panorama as well as other details and related places. They have also built in wider integration with social features, Maps now tracks the places you visit and can suggest similar activities. Google has also built in a new Transit and Route mode that can be toggled alongside other transport views. We hope not to be getting lost anytime soon in the future. At least not with Google Maps…
