Microsoft hasn’t had the smoothest of launches, their console has sold well – but has been plagued by disc errors and scratched hardware. Nevertheless that hasn’t stopped eager gamers getting their hands on the latest games and putting the new consoles through their paces. Microsoft’s Yusuf Mehdi posted on the XBOX Wire website:
“We are humbled and gratified by the overwhelming response from our fans to the launch of Xbox One… Eleven days in we are seeing record breaking sales and are selling every Xbox One we can make.”
So what have those busy gamers been up to? Well it seems that they’ve killed over 3 billion zombies in Dead Rising 3, torn up 90 million miles in Forza 5, slain 180 million enemies of the Roman Empire in Ryse and over 150 million combos in Killer Instinct. Wow, that’s a lot of gaming.
Microsoft sold a lot of consoles, not as much as Sony, but a lot. So don’t be thinking that these totals have been racked up by one eager gamer. In total, all the gamers who have bought an XBOX One now hold 450 million Gamer Points, and that score would shut your friend up any day. Microsoft haven’t revealed their sales records yet, but Sony has already taken the crown in the UK – with the PS4 becoming the best selling console ever.
That said, the XBOX One hasn’t under-performed. Do you see any on the shelves as your local store? It seems Microsoft may have had the head start, but those few mistakes at the beginning cost them a lot. Microsoft is keeping up demand in manufacturing consoles and Major Nelson is evening offering new gamers tips on how to tackle more of the undead. But for now, politics aside, at least the world is safe from brain eating zombies. You can sleep safely tonight.
