You’ve always got the dread of a Secret Santa, the: what shall I buy? Do they even like chocolate? How much do I spend? All these questions buzzing, it’s easy to forget that Christmas is quite a stressful time, especially for those buying the gifts. More often than not, you won’t get paired with your ideal match, making present buying an even more crushing task. Likely, the person who purchases for you will be a descendent on Ebenezer Scrooge; hence you’ll probably end up with a lump of coal. Depressing.
However when the world’s largest philanthropist and entrepreneur turned charity king participates in a Reddit Secret Santa, there has to be a greater incentive. User NY1227 – named Rachel – participated in the exchange programme on the site and received a package signed:
“To Rachel from Bill.”
Upon opening the box, Rachel didn’t click she’d received a gift from ‘THE BILL GATES’ – proceeding to open the box, she’d received a travel book; Journeys of a Lifetime. However, included alongside the book, a card and a stuffed cow – a representation of a donation to the Heifer International charity – who donates cows to a family in need. Both signed by ‘Bill Gates’. Now, by this point, Iyou’d probably be wondering who ‘Bill’ was, maybe just a happy chappy – but it wasn’t until Rachel uncovered the photo, picturing Bill Gates with the cow, did she finally click.
Bill Gates had fulfilled the majority of Rachel’s Christmas wish list, but obviously avoided gifting the Apple iPad she’d asked for. Awkward. There’s obviously a little bitterness still! Either way, well done Bill, your generosity extends to Reddit too, that cow will go to good use.

“I feel SO shocked and excited that not only did I receive a gift from Bill, but it was perfectly and EXACTLY tuned into my interests. My gosh, what a rush!! I was so excited, the cause seemed really worthy and amazing, and it is the season of giving. By the way, the charity “gives families in need the right tools…or a chance for girls to go to school”. The last part was/is my favorite, since my master’s degree is in education and I am SO into educational benefits for all.”
